I happened upon The Four Inn's last week, walking through the skyway looking for hidden gems, so when my wife suggested we go out for breakfast Friday, I suggested we try the Four Inn's. The second you walk in you feel like you have walked into a 1970's dinner. Then you sit down and realize you have walked into a 1970's dinner. There is a counter for singles, lots of booths for 2 to 4, and couple big tables towards the back. You know you are in a diner. They serve good food fast. Not the kind of place where you linger over five or six courses. Now you may be thinking, "It's just a diner, why is this place better than others?" Well, let me tell you why. Number One The staff is experienced. When you walk in you can tell that the staff has been there awhile. You will not see some high school girl running around with no clue what she is doing. The servers are efficient and smart. The kind that fills everyone's water as they walk to and from their service station rather that just that one that was empty. And the cook's are some of the fastest I've seen. This is not a place where you will go unnoticed by a server or have to wait too long for your food. Oh, and they're nice too. The staff at Mickey's is fast, but if they're not being rude to you they're yelling at each other. Number Two The food is good, and a great value. My favorite dish is Sam's everything omelette: 3 eggs, sausage, bacon, ham, tomatoes, onions, green pepper, mushrooms, and American cheese. Served with toast, and I add hashbrowns for a buck. It's a ton of food, and after tax it's just $8.07. You can barely get a sweet roll and a coffee for that price at Key's. And, honestly, this is a better omelete. The veggies have a little crunch and the cheese is oowie goowie. Number Three I love the old school vibe of The Four Inn's. It is kind of like a trip back in time. You can tell it was designed in the 70's and the look still fits. Classic and genuine. Too many places get caught up trying to be the new hip, cool spot. The Four Inn's doesn't care about being hip. They care about serving good food at a fair price, just as they always have.

If a foreigner came to town asking for a restaurant that represents a slice of Americana there are two places I would recommend, Four Inns or Flameburger. Four Inns is the quintessential diner, it's the essence that Denny's or Perkins is trying to grab but cant. Packed with regulars whos median age seems about 53 the place just oozes establishment. I'm not the biggest diner food guy but the food is solid. It's exactly what you want in diner food, cooked on a hot metal surface visible to all and greasy as can be. Shouldn't eat it every every day but if you're looking for a greasy skyway fix this is the place to go.

The Four Inns is not much to look at from either the inside or out but once you take a chance and go in for your meal, it actually is pretty good. The menu is not expansive nor expensive. It is either breakfast or lunch fare that is reasonably priced, decent quality and served quickly. This is the perfect place for a quick yet decent business lunch.

This was a fabulous place. Great change of pace from mickeys diner. This place is friendly and has great waitresses. Excellent food. I loved that they had fruit as an option.

I really don't understand some yelp reviewers because they must not understand that when you are getting a meal for under $10 it's probably not going to be the best thing you've ever eaten but at the four inns it will always be delicious. It's American comfort food at its best. I've had everything from the fabulous pancakes to the incredible BBQ Chicken Sandwich to the triple decker grilled cheese and never been disappointed. The hashbrowns are crispy, the fries are hot and the specials never fail to impress. The portions are giant and if you leave hungry I would be impressed. I've been eating here for years and the food is exactly what you would expect for american comfort food. I've also met the owner a number of times as she usually seats people and always has a smile on her face and is happy to bring in customers. Since she has owned it the specials have changed a bit for the better- some more interesting specials but they always have the juicy special which is my absolute favorite. The servers are wonderful and you can definitely tell some of them have been there for a while as they know every detail of the menu and always have great suggestions. It is a local business that has been around for 40 years that I'm happy to get to support by spending my lunch break inside. The price is right for what you get and I love supporting local businesses so this is a great place if you like good food and helping out the locals. Check it out if you haven't- it's definitely worth a try.

A place with decor circa 1970s. It's all good. Because this diner is located near the courthouse, I guess that explains the name; otherwise, there's no "inn" in the modern sense. This is a 70s old style diner to beat all old style diners. The menu is classic. In fact, it's so classic, that even some of the 70s menu choices seem new, like the tater tot casserole. Awesome. The wait staff is great. You can tell they've been at this for a while and know the entire menu inside and out, and the regular's regular orders. They're chatty when they need to be, and leave you alone when you need to be. The breakfast menu is standard, but what surprised me, was the portion size. They don't skimp on anything. Even the size of the bread for the toast. Seriously. Go hungry. It's hard to screw up a standard breakfast and, thankfully, Four Inns didn't. Oddly, my favorite thing was the hash browns, something I normally skip. Here, they were cooked crispy and brown on the outside and just the right amount of soft on the inside. I think it's the first time I've found a place that does it right. Nothing here will set a new culinary food standard: the coffee is ordinary, the food is standard, the wait staff is friendly, but when you're in the skyway and not in the mood for trendy, Four Inns will take you away to the ordinary.

The food tasted very cheap and flavorless. The bread was stale, green beans were overcooked to the level of having brown color, fries were even very oily. I had very hard time taking even few bites of anything served. I would not recommend this place. The only cool thing was they had an interesting grafitti-type ceiling design with colors of orange and pink.

I'll bet you a tater tot hotdish that the decor in this place has not been touched since it opened in 1970. I adore this diner. Fast, above-and-beyond friendly service, really good food, inexpensive, and (see above) a super groovy 1970's decor. If you're stuck in the Skyways for a while, you gotta check this place out. It's a tasty slice of life.

I can't comment on the food because myself and my son didn't stay long enough to taste the customer service was terrible. we were seated at a far back table next to stairs that leads to a basement. then the waitress forgot we were back there. Then the meal "juicy Lucy" that they were advertising outside their restaurant as the day's "special" were no longer being served!!! Willie.

This lady is picky about her Lucys. The cheese in the middle was NOT gooey (a deli slice of cheese in the middle and nothing more). Hardly any fixins, and there was no seasoning of the patty or fries. Perfect for bland diet folks, but alas, not my style.

There was nothing wrong with the food. Eggs over easy with toast, hash browns and a side of ham, all done just right. Coffee (typical American diner coffee) and orange juice was served by a polite and very attentive waitress. But I was a little surprised and more than a little disappointed to hear the cooks' suggestive and racist remarks to each other about a couple, right after they had just left. I've lived in New York City for almost 30 years, so it's not like I heard anything today that I'd never heard before, but pretty much the last kind of commentary I want to hear over Saturday brunch is one cook explaining to the other that a married woman's interest in him as a friend has to do with what's between his legs. If you really need to talk like that, save it for the break room, not on the restaurant floor where everyone can hear you. There are plenty of other places to eat in St. Paul that aren't stuck in some kind of twisted, racist time warp, so this was the last time I will set foot in this one.

This is okay...it's kind of like a Perkins but not as nice. Pros- servers are super friendly. Cons- no freshness :(, no fresh cream and fake maple syrup. The decor has not been updated in at least 30 years, it appears very dingy.

It is a dinner in the skyway. It is an interesting little spot. It has great prices and really good service. They have an arrange of options on the menu. The one thing that really struck me is the speed of food to the table. I really had low expectations going in, but I was pleasantly surprised. Give it a shot if you are in the skyway. It isn't going to blow your doors off, but the speed, service and family feel will have you coming back.
